New Signs point way to Town of Ayrsley

It started with a new freestanding sign that went up late last year near the entrance along South Tryon Street. The sign has a portion that changes at intervals, advertising the offerings inside the retail-office-housing community. Color-coded directories are now along the sidewalk, too.The developers want to host regular community events, like last fall’s "Taste of Ayrsley" promoting restaurants, and last weekend’s Panthers tailgate party. With its sidewalks and offerings, events help promote the "walk-around experience," said Charley Hodges, president and CEO of New Forum, which partnered with Henson-Tomlin Interests and developed most of the retail and office space. Twenty-six of about 40 available retail and service paces are leased. This includes retailers Bucketts, a home and garden gift shop; anchor Fintastic , an aquatics store selling fish, plants and supplies; two Signatures clothing shops, one each for men and women; and other shops. The $720 million, 80-acre Ayrsley community – which has a residential component – broke ground in 2002, and development continues. A second hotel is in the works across from the Hilton Garden Inn, which opened last year, according to Hodges. There’s also a movie theater, YMCA, restaurants, and a campus of Strayer University.
